GEORGE HIBBARD
I began my golf at the age of 14 in 1946 at a very famous course where my Dad happened to be
president and club champ (Salem Country Club, near Boston, Massachusetts, the site of a few
major tournaments over the years). He gave me clubs totally worng for me, and to understate the
consequences with "bitter irony," they were "not a little responsible for my own difficulties in learning." They could not
have been more inappropriate for my build (short, heavy, with flat lie angles)--I am and was already over 6' tall, with short arms.
But in the long run, instead of hurting me, the very
difficulties I had trying to use them required me really to find out 'how things work in golfswing,' and
the insights I gained have become the cornerstone of my knowledge and my ability to help others, "all of whom
struggle," (to make a point).
I began my teaching in 1975 in the
Washington, D.C. area and in 1985 I moved to Florida. I now live and teach in Flagler County in the city of
Palm Coast on the northeast coast, in an area having many fine affordable golf courses and tourist attractions (St. Augustine to the north
and Daytona Beach just to the south).
My credentials are not paper on the wall or achievements in playing. You didn't come here to learn about me,
but for your needs. MY credentials are for TEACHING GOLF, and you'll find
evidence of that in the thousands of testimonials I have
received from people of all levels who have written of their
unmitigated joy at finding me! If you were to print just the ones listed on this site,
it would take 100 sheets of paper. (For everyone that writes something like that, I'm told that there are 100 or so who
feel the same but don't take the trouble.) And as
a management professional once said to me about using "achievement awards" to impress others,
"I don't want to know what certificates you have on the wall: I want
to hear from your CLIENTS!"
My passion for the game of golf fostered in my "analytical brain" an unparalleled
microscopic attention to, and analysis of, the golf swing. During some 50 years
of hitting thousands of range balls and studying just about everything written, photographed, or videotaped in the game,
I learned a lot. And given my background
in physics and mechanics (an unofficial "minor" at Amherst College, class of 1952--my major was music [piano]), I came to discover things about impact and control
that are almost never addressed anywhere else and that people need to know. Almost everyone who succeeds at or teaches
golf, even at the highest levels, misunderstands his own
mechanics and/or takes for granted other subtleties that he handles by instinctive
athletic ability -- unaware of all of the subconscious factors that operate in his
own or in others' golf swings! So there is a tremendous unmet need a need to inform the golfing public
about these unrevealed subtleties and how to handle them.
The most significant things I have learned came from personal instruction by David Lee, ("Gravity Golf"), from Jack Nicklaus's genius especially
as he details things in his second book, "The Full Swing," from Mike Austin (whom I met personally a couple months
prior to his death in 2006), and from untold other greats mentioned on other pages on this website. So what's here
has been acquired over many years, and it is continually confirmed
in the swings and the records of golf's most famous and successful
champions, such as Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, David Duval, Davis Love III, Freddie Couples, Lee Trevino,
Colin Montgomerie, Ben Hogan, John Daly, and many others.
A reader will quickly see how knowing ALL of these things is necessary for successful
impact, power, and control. Not to know ANY of this information will limit any golfer's
potential -- even at the highest levels!
